VISTAMAR
In the Casablanca Valley, where sea breezes provide cooling, the grapes take their time to ripen, resulting in elegant wines with intense aromas.
In the vineyards of Maipo-Andes and Cachapoal-Andes, situated in the foothills with a majestic mountain backdrop, the vines bask in the cold winds that originate from the summit, allowing them to mature at their own pace. This environment yields fruity wines with excellent aging potential.
In the Maule Valley, we’ve carefully selected vineyards that are influenced by both the coast and the Andes. Here, old vines produce highly concentrated grapes with a distinctive freshness. Over the years, they’ve learned that quality surpasses quantity, and from these vines, we craft powerful and complex wines.
Across all these valleys, the slow ripening cycle is rewarded with fruity notes, intense aromas, and unparalleled freshness.
MAIPO VaLLEY
The climate in the Maipo Valley is characterized as temperate Mediterranean, with warm and dry summers. The valley’s alluvial, stony, well-drained, and moderately fertile soils, combined with its exceptional climatic conditions, create ideal conditions for the production of high-quality red wines, particularly Cabernet Sauvignon.
Viña Vistamar sources its grapes for wines from two vineyards in this valley: San Bernardo and El Puntal, the latter located in Isla de Maipo. Both vineyards utilize the vertical shoot position trellising system, and their soils are characterized by gravel with a clayey horizon and a loamy texture, which promotes deep root growth. These conditions play a significant role in ensuring the exceptional quality of the renowned Maipo wines.
CACHAPOAL VALLEY
The Cachapoal Valley is situated about 80 kilometers south of Santiago, Chile’s capital city, is one of the central region’s most prominent wine-producing regions. Enclosed by the Paine mountain range to the north and the Pelequén mountain range to the south, this valley is part of the river basin that shares its name. The valley enjoys a temperate Mediterranean climate with an annual rainfall of approximately 400 mm and experiences significant temperature fluctuations, ranging from above 30°C in the summer to below 0°C in the winter.
The composition of the soil varies based on the proximity to the Cachapoal River. Some areas have soils of alluvial and colluvial origin, while others boast deep, fertile soils. Viña Vistamar selects its grapes from the La Moralina estate within this valley, strategically located in the Andean sector of Cachapoal, a mere seven kilometers from our winery. The vineyard’s irrigation water is sourced directly from the mountain range’s thaws, thanks to its foothill position. Spring and summer bring a wide thermal amplitude to the area, which is mitigated by constant breezes that cool the vines and shield them from excessive heat. Most of the vineyard’s soils are deep to moderately deep, although some areas feature thinner soils with a compact subsoil. These regions are characterized by abundant angular stones and smooth pebbles of alluvial-colluvial origin, composed of andesitic and granite materials.
CASABLANCA VALLEY
Casablanca stands as one of Chile’s most renowned viticultural valleys, boasting an exceptional international reputation for the superb quality of its wines. Its defining feature is the pervasive maritime influence originating from the Pacific Ocean, giving rise to morning fogs that contribute to temperature moderation.
The climate in Casablanca is characterized by chilly winters and summers with a substantial thermal fluctuation. Significantly, variations in temperature are observed between the slopes and the lower, flat areas, where spring frosts are a recurring concern. The soils in this region are deep with a medium to coarse texture. The slopes are particularly notable for their clay-loam composition.
Our El Principal estate is nestled amidst a picturesque landscape characterized by gentle rolling hills that are predominantly east-facing, allowing them to bask in the morning sun. This exposure results in a fresh-fruit flavor profile and a gradual maturation of the grapes. It’s from this vineyard that the majority of Vistamar’s Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir grapes are sourced.
MAULE VALLEY
The climate in this region can be categorized as Mediterranean sub-humid, yet it’s notably recognized for having one of the widest climatic divergences among its distinct sectors.
The Maule Valley is distinguished by its warm summers, featuring substantial temperature fluctuations between day and night. Rainfall is concentrated during the winter months when temperatures tend to be relatively lower. The soils here are typically of alluvial and volcanic origin. As one of the most extensive wine valleys in Chile, it holds the distinction of being the largest producer of wine grapes in the country.
LEYDA VALLEY
The Leyda Valley, located in the Valparaíso region west of Santiago, Chile, is renowned for its maritime influence and is an ideal place for Sauvignon Blanc. Our Sauvignon Blanc from the Leyda Valley is a testament to the freshness and uniqueness of this wine region. The cold Pacific Ocean breezes and morning mists create an exceptional microclimate, while the calcareous and clayey soil contributes mineral notes and vibrant acidity to this wine.
This Sauvignon Blanc stands out for its intensity and aromatic complexity, featuring hints of lime, grapefruit, herbs, and flowers. On the palate, it offers balanced acidity and a smooth texture, with a persistent and refreshing finish. It truly represents the Leyda terroir in Sauvignon Blanc grapes. Whether enjoyed on its own or with light dishes, seafood, or salads, our Sauvignon Blanc from the Leyda Valley provides a fresh and elegant flavor experience that captures the essence of Chile.
